What are the benefits of Medik8 Press and Glow Toner?
With its non-sticky formula and handy pump system, Medik8 Press and Glow is very easy to use and doesn’t leave any unpleasant residue. It exfoliates, hydrates, and resurfaces to brighten the complexion and reduce lines and discolouration – all without irritating the skin.
The larger molecules in PHAs penetrate less deeply than other acids, avoiding the uncomfortable sensitisation that these can cause. Press and Glow also contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant ingredients to reduce any inflammation and protect the skin against damaging factors.
Super-hydrating gluconolactone resurfaces the skin through exfoliation, cell turnover stimulation, and moisture retention, packing a powerful yet gentle punch. Over time, this smooths skin texture and improves tone by fading hyperpigmentation, creating a better makeup base.
How does Press and Glow Toner work?
When you use powerful acids for exfoliation too frequently, this can sensitise the skin and even cause premature ageing as the skin struggles to repair itself. To prevent this, Press and Glow utilises PHAs, which have a different molecular structure with more hydroxyl groups. They only work on the upper layers of the skin and are more hydrating.
This Medik8 toner contains 5.5% gluconolactone, a high-performing PHA that converts to gluconic acid. It buffs the skin surface by breaking down the bonds between dead skin cells, and hydrates by drawing and retaining moisture. It’s also compatible with Vitamin A (retinol).
The next star ingredient is prickly pear extract, an enzyme activator that speeds up cell renewal and the sloughing of dead skin (a process called desquamation). This natural exfoliation and regeneration helps to make the skin much smoother and clearer, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
Additionally, extracts of calming aloe vera and acai tackle inflammation and encourage moisture retention, while also providing antioxidant protection against environmental aggressors. This creates a calm and soothing final touch, allowing you to tone even sensitive skin without irritation.

Press and Glow Toner FAQs
There are no AHAs or BHAs (alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids) in this toner, only gluconolactone, which is a much gentler PHA. Press and Glow is formulated for safe use on a daily basis, at least twice a day, so it should not cause irritation such as redness, swelling, or stinging.
When using Press and Glow for the first time, you may still experience blemishes to begin with, as it loosens long-trapped debris and oils that rise to the surface. This process is known as purging and is totally normal. If this does happen, it should clear up within a few weeks of using the toner.
UV rays are one of the biggest causes of premature ageing. While gluconolactone doesn’t increase sun sensitivity and the risk of sun damage like AHAs and BHAs, you should still apply sunscreen during your morning skincare routine – especially if you use a Vitamin A product at night.
Though it isn’t explicitly designed or marketed as an anti-ageing skincare product, Press and Glow Toner does have second-hand anti-ageing properties. Exfoliating the skin and stimulating cell regeneration contributes greatly towards tackling visible signs of premature skin ageing.
Boosting moisture levels and tightening pores leads to plumper and smoother skin, improving elasticity and reducing wrinkles for a more youthful appearance. Not to mention the eponymous luminous glow, which visibly shows off healthier and younger-looking skin.
Of course, this toner also works well with other skincare by enhancing absorption, so it will increase the effects of any specifically anti-ageing products you’re also using. For the best anti-ageing results, you should always include an SPF product in your daily routine.
The Press and Glow bottle has a removable pump, allowing you to recycle the container and reuse the plastic pump when you’ve used up the product. To do this, you’ll need to order a refill bottle, which is the same size (200ml), but comes without a pump.
To transfer the Press and Glow pump, unscrew the metal cap from the refill bottle and screw it into the bottom of the dispenser. You can then screw the pump onto the new bottle and activate it by twisting the top until it clicks, as instructed in the ‘How to Apply’ section.
Medik8 advises that you only use the pump on five bottles before disposal. If you’re interested in purchasing a Press and Glow refill from The Skin Clinic Direct, please get in touch with us by phone, email, or online to enquire about us stocking the refills in the future.
How to Apply+
Medik8 Press and Glow Toner is designed to remove any remaining traces of dirt or other impurities from your skin after cleansing. It helps to restore your skin’s natural pH balance and prepare the skin to absorb follow-up products.
For this reason, you should use Press and Glow Toner every time you cleanse your face (morning and night).
If this is your first time using this Medik8 toner, please test the product on a small area of skin to check for adverse reactions. If your skin accepts the toner, you can proceed to use it regularly like this:
1) Cleanse your face and neck thoroughly with your preferred cleansing products.
2) Unlock the Press and Glow Toner by twisting the top part of the pump anti-clockwise until you hear a click.
3) Hold a reusable pad or cotton ball under the pump and press the pump down 3-4 times to release the toner.
4) Sweep the cleansing pad over your skin on your face and neck, avoiding the delicate area around the eyes.
5) When you’re done, twist the pump clockwise until it clicks to close the pump and avoid leakage.
For the best results, follow these steps twice a day every day, cleansing and toning in the morning and evening before applying further products to the skin.
